Activate your Treon Connect account

Introduction

In order to use Treon Connect, you first have to activate your account.

Account activation is done exclusively through the Treon Connect web application.

Once your account is activated, you can use your credentials to access both the Treon Connect web and the Treon Connect mobile app.

Step-by-Step Instruction

Step 1: Receive Welcome Email

Initially, the Treon Connect administrator in your organization will create your account.

You will then receive an invitation to join Treon Connect via email.

If you don’t see the email, please check your spam folder. If needed, your administrator can resend the invitation to you via email.

Step 2: Click Link

To proceed, click the “Set up your new account” link in your invitation email.

Your browser will now automatically open a new window displaying the Treon Connect Welcome page.

Step 3: Choose Password

Please create a password for your Treon Connect account in the “New Password” field.

Choose a secure password that includes a mix of letters, numbers, and special characters.

Re-enter the same password in the “Confirm Password” field.

Step 4: Confirm Account

Click the SET PASSWORD button to save your new password and activate your account.

Your password has been successfully saved. Click the BACK TO LOGIN button to continue to the login screen.

Step 6: Log into the Account

This is the login screen for your Treon Connect instance.

Please enter your email address and the password you selected. Click the LOGIN button to access your Treon Connect account.

You have now successfully Treon Connect account!

You can use your new Treon Connect user credentials to log in via the Treon Connect web application and the Treon Connect app.

Troubleshooting

Error: I have not received the Welcome email

Check your Spam folder to see if the email is there.
In case the email cannot be found, ask your organisation's IT administrator to re-send the Welcome email.

Download Treon Connect Mobile app

Introduction

This article explains how to download and install Treon Connect Mobile app for Android and iOS.

Android

Follow these steps to install the Treon Connect Mobile app on your Android device:

Step 1: Open Google Play Store

Access your Android smartphone.
Tap the Google Play Store icon to open it.

Step 2: Search for Treon Connect Mobile app

In the Google Play Store search bar at the top, type: Treon Connect
Press the search icon or Enter on your keyboard.
Look for the app titled Treon Connect by Treon Oy.

Step 3: Install the Treon Connect Mobile app

Click the Install button.
Wait for the download and installation to complete.

Step 4: Open the Treon Connect Mobile app

Ensure your device is connected to the internet.
Check that your device is running Android 8.0 or higher.

Ensure you have enough free storage space.

Treon Connect Web UI Navigation

Introduction

The main user interface of Treon Connect contains 10 menus contained in 3 groups:

Control

The Control panel lets you set up your Treon Connect instance and change basic settings.

Access

In the Access menu you can create new users, manage existing users and manage your access management via defined roles.

Groups

In the Groups menu, you can organize your assets into multiple hierarchical levels to reflect your deployments and sites. These groups will also serve as the foundation for managing user access levels.

Assets

In the Assets menu you can create and manage all your assets and set up classifications for your assets.

Management

The Management panel lets you manage your Treon Connect workflow.

Networks

In the Networks menu you can see the network status of you Treon Gateways and sensors, as well as run diagnostics.

Devices

In the Devices menu you can see all gateways and sensors commissioned to your Treon Connect instance, as well as update their software.

Configurations

In the Configurations menu you can manage your assets' information.

Reports

In the Reports menu you can set up and review reports on your measurements and events.

Operations

The Operations panel lets you monitor your assets' operations, measurement data and events.

Events

In the Events menu you can manage all current and past warnings and alerts.

Condition

In the Condition menu you can manage the condition monitoring measurement data of your assets and set up alerts and warnings.

Fleet

In the Fleet menu you can manage the movement data and locations of your assets.

Clicking on your user profile in the top right corner will open your personal user menu. Here you can change your own profile, and log out of a Treon Connect instance.

Treon Connect App UI Navigation

Introduction

This article explains the Treon Connect Mobile app user interface.

First log-in

After starting the Treon Connect Mobile app for the first time, you are asked to enter the name of your Treon Connect instance. Enter the link you have received and press SELECT.

After you have selected your Treon Connect instance, you are asked to enter your email address and your password. Enter both and press LOGIN to log in.

In case you forgot your Treon Connect instance password, you can reset it by selecting FORGOT PASSWORD? and entering your user email address in the next window. Press SEND EMAIL to receive an email with a reset link and information on how to reset your password.

Treon Connect Mobile UI

After starting the Treon Connect app, you will see the Dashboard menu of your Treon Connect instance.

By clicking the menu on the top left side, you will see the full navigation menu.

From the menu, you can access the Events menu where all alerts and warnings from the Assets assigned to you are displayed for the responsible maintenance technicians.

From the menu, you can also access the full list of Assets. Here you can assign new sensors to existing Assets when commissioning sensors.

Assets are the machines equipped with one or multiple Treon Connect sensors.

Assets can be machines, sections of equipment, or part of a process. They are the basis for viewing machine health.

Step 1: Access Treon Connect Web and Assets

For accessing the Assets management, open your Treon Connect Web application.

Click the Assets button in the Treon Connect Web main menu.

Step 2: Asset list

Here you can see a list of all current Assets.

Step 3: Create new Asset

You can create a new asset by clicking the CREATE NEW button in the top right corner.

Step 4: New Asset input form

A new menu appears, allowing you to enter the data needed to create the new Asset.

Asset Name: defines the asset with a unique name
Asset Description: a short description of the asset
Asset Type: the type of the asset can be defined freely
Group: assigns the asset to a specific group as predefined previously
Asset Location: describes the geographical location of the asset

Step 5: Asset Name

Begin by assigning a name to the Asset that clearly differentiates it from other Assets of the same type.

Enter a description for the Asset that describes it further.

Please select the type of your Asset from the dropdown menu.

Please note: when defining a new Asset Type that is not yet in the pull-down list, type the new Asset Type into the field and then immediately select it from the pull-down list.

Step 5: Group for the Asset

Choose the Group to which this Asset belongs.

You can select any Group or Sub-Group in your Groups branches.

You can only select Groups that already exist. To create new Groups, follow this guide.

Step 6: Asset Location

Enter a desciption for the exact location the Asset is found.

Step 7: Upload image

You can assign a picture to the asset through “SELECT IMAGE”. The file type of the image can be png, jpg, jfif, jpg or jpeg.

If you don’t have a suitable image available, you can also attach it to the Asset later.

Step 8: Upload file

You can also attach a file to the Asset. This can e.g. be a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) file for this Asset or any other documentation.

Please be aware that only files in PDF format are allowed as attachments.

You can also attach a file to the Asset at any point later.

Step 9: Create Asset

You have now entered all the relevant data for the Asset.

Click “CREATE ASSET” to save the information and create the new Asset.

How to Set Up Groups

Introduction

Groups are the basis for any Treon Connect project with multiple deployment sites. In a Group, assets can be pooled together. For example, a group could be one specific production facility or environment where Treon Connect sensors are deployed.

Groups are the foundation of user access management in Roles.

You can create new Groups at the top level or at any point within the hierarchical tree structure. This flexibility allows you to organize devices according to your operational needs, whether by site, department, or function.

Managing your Assets

Step 1: Access Treon Connect Web and Assets

For accessing the Assets management, open your Treon Connect Web application.

Click the Assets button in the Treon Connect Web main menu.

Step 2: Asset list

Here you can see a list of all current Assets.

Step 3: Select Asset

Select the Asset you would like to edit. Click the Asset’s name in the list.

Step 4: Asset details

A new window with all details of the selected Asset opens.

Step 5: Examine Asset details

Now you see the current Asset details on the left side:

Step 6: Edit the Asset

In order to edit the details of the Asset, click “EDIT” in the top right corner.

A new window opens to edit the details of the Asset.

You can also remove the image and upload a new image.

You can attach a file in PDF format to the Asset.

Step 7: Save Changes

Once you have finished editing the Asset, click SAVE CHANGES to apply the updates to the Asset information.

You have now successfully edited the Asset!

Step-by-step: Attach Devices to existing Assets

Step 1: Access Treon Connect Web and Assets

For accessing the Assets management, open your Treon Connect Web application.

Click the Assets button in the Treon Connect Web main menu.

Step 2: Asset list

Here you can see a list of all current Assets.

Step 3: Select Asset

Select the Asset you would like to edit. Click the Asset’s name in the list.

Step 4: Asset details

A new window with all details of the selected Asset opens.

Step 5: Examine attached Devices

Now you see all Devices that are attached to the Asset.

There can be none, one or multiple attached Devices.

Step 6: Attach Device

Click the ATTACH DEVICE button to add a new sensor Device to the Asset.

Step 7: Choose Device

From the pull-down menu, choose a Device from the list of available sensor devices.

Step 8: Save Changes

You can attach one or multiple sensors to the Asset.

After you have attached one or multiple new Devices, confirm by clicking DONE in the top-right corner.

You have now successfully attached a new Device to an existing Asset!

How to Set Up Gateways

Introduction

For your Treon Gateway to be able to transmit data to your Treon Connect platform, the gateway needs to be connected to the internet.

The Treon Gateway supports the following methods for establishing an internet connection:

SIM card (cellular network)
Wi-Fi connection
Ethernet connection

Ensure that at least one of these connectivity options is properly configured to maintain reliable communication with Treon Connect.

Please note: some Treon Gateway products can come with a pre-intalled SIM card (e.g. in Treon Condition Monitoring Test Kits).

Connection priority

The connection priority determines the order of connection method the Treon Gateway tries to connect in to the network.

The standard settings have the following priority order of connections:

Ethernet connection
Cellular (SIM) connection
Wi-Fi connection.

This means that the Treon Gateways will first try to connect via Ethernet. If no Ethernet connection is available, it will connect via cellular (SIM) connection. If no SIM card is present or the connection cannot be established, the gateway will switch to Wi-Fi connection if one is set up.

You can change the connection priority and other settings in the gateway’s Configuration UI.

1. Ethernet Connection

Treon Gateway & Treon Gateway 2

You can establish an Ethernet connection simply by attaching an ethernet cable to the Treon Gateway (item D).

Treon Gateway in Protective Enclosure

For establishing an Ethernet connection with the Treon Gateway in Protective Enclosure, you need to open up the enclosure to gain access. When using a permanent Ethernet connection, you should run the Ethernet cable through the free cable gland in the enclosure (item B).

You can change the ethernet settings in the Configuration UI of the Treon Gateway.

Cellular (SIM) Connection

SIM Card Requirements

The SIM card needs to fulfil the necessary requirements, or it will not work with the Treon Gateway. Choose the mobile network provider and the type of SIM card carefully, so it will work with the gateway.

The Treon Gateway is compatible with 2G and LTE M1.

NB-IoT (Narrowband IoT) is theoretically possible but turned off by default as we do not recommend using it due to the low bandwidth that is provided.

4G and 5G SIM cards are not compatible with the Treon Gateway. If you would like to use a 4G or 5G SIM card, you can use a USB SIM card modem that utilize these connection methods. Please read the segment on External USB modems below.

The SIM card format used is Micro-SIM.

Always make sure that the chosen SIM card provider has sufficient network coverage in the area of deployment. Specifically large amounts of data (e.g. when using raw data or downloading product updates) can be problematic if the mobile network signal strength is poor.

The SIM card is not hot-swappable. This means, that after inserting or switching a SIM card on a running Treon Gateway, you should always reboot the device to ensure that the SIM card is recognised properly.

Please also note that the APN should be autodetected in most cases. If 20 minutes after booting the Treon Gateway it still does not connect, then you will need to change the APN in the Configuration UI.

Treon Gateway & Treon Gateway 2

Unplug the Treon Gateway’s power cable from the wall outlet.
Put your fingernail in the seam between the lid of the SIM card slot (E) and the back cover and remove the lid.
Slide the SIM card holder to the right until it unlocks, and lift the holder up.
Place the micro SIM card in the holder with the contact area face down, and close the holder.
Slide the holder to the left until it locks into place, and put back the lid.

Please note: Always unplug the power from your Treon Gateway before inserting or removing a SIM card! Under certain conditions a hot swap can be possible, but it cannot be guaranteed that it works.

Treon Gateway in Protective Enclosure

Open the protective enclosure lid.
Put your fingernail in the seam between the lid of the SIM card slot (J) and the back cover and remove the lid.
Slide the SIM card holder to the right until it unlocks, and lift the holder up.
Place the micro SIM card in the holder with the contact area face down, and close the holder.
Slide the holder to the left until it locks into place, and put back the lid of the SIM card slot.
Close the protective enclosure lid and tighten the screws.

Please note: Always unplug the power from your Treon Gateway before inserting or removing a SIM card!

External USB SIM-Modem

The Treon Gateway and the Treon Gateway 2 have a USB connection that can be equipped with an external USB SIM modem.

A prerequisite is that the Treon Gateway or Treon Gateway 2 has the correct driver for the specific SIM modem model. The gateways have drivers for many popular models pre-installed, but check with Treon Support if you would like to use a model not included in our list.

When using an USB SIM modem with the Treon Gateway, the modem first needs to be configured on a computer before it can be used on the gateway. It is not possible to configure the USB SIM modem directly from the Treon Gateway.

Changing the SIM settings

The preferred process is always to change the SIM settings via the Configuration UI.

Please note that the APN should be autodetected in most cases. If 20 minutes after booting the Treon Gateway it still does not connect, then you will need to change the APN in the Configuration UI.

3. Wi-Fi Connection

The Treon Gateway, Treon Gateway 2 and Treon Gateway in Protective Enclosure can establish a network connection via Wi-Fi. Should the installation of an Ethernet cable not be possible at a deployment site, a Wi-Fi connection will be the next best choice.

The Treon Gateway and Treon Gateway 2 use Wi-Fi standards 802.11 b/g/n and are compatible with all 2.4G Wi-Fi networks.

Treon Gateway, Treon Gateway 2, Treon Gateway in Protective Enclosure

In order to establish and configure a Wi-Fi connection, access the Configuration UI and proceed with the steps below.

Choose Configure Wi-Fi network on the main page.
Choose Add Wi-Fi network and click Next. The Treon Gateway will now search for all existing 2.4G networks.
Select the Wi-Fi network you would like to connect to.
Enter the password for the selected Wi-Fi network.
Now the Treon Gateway will connect automatically to the selected Wi-Fi network. In order to exit the Configuration UI, select Quit, or press and hold the configuration button (F) until the status light stops blinking.

How to Set Up Event Rules

Introduction

The Treon Connect Condition Monitoring app allows you to set up warning and alerts to warn you in case specific pre-defined conditions are met. This can be used for condition monitoring to e.g. get information when a temperature threshold has been violated, or when rotating equipment gets unaligned and needs maintenance.

Step 1: Condition App

Go to the Condition app and choose the Measurements tab. Stay on the Trends (KPI) menu.
Now select the asset you would like to set up events for.
Press the Event Rules button to open a new menu.

Step 2: New Condition

In this menu you can see all previously defined Event Rules for the asset.

Click New Condition to open a row for a new event rule.

Step 3: Select KPI to be measured as basis

Select KPI to be measured as basis. You can choose any KPI that is measured with a Treon device on this asset.

Step 4: Select Criteria

Select one of the following criteria operators to define the relationship of the measured KPI to the value you enter:


>	Greater than
<	Less than
=	Equal
>=	Greater than or equal to
<=	Less than or equal to
!=	Not equal to

Step 5: Enter Value

Enter a value for the KPI that corresponds with the criteria operator.

Step 6: Select Severity

Select the severity type. You can choose warnings and alerts, which will show up differently in the Events notification.


Warning	Lower alarm severity
Alert	Higher alarm severity

Upcoming feature: You will be able to combine multiple conditions with AND/OR operators, which will allow you to make several measured values the basis for an alarm.

Example: Temperature Event Rule

When the temperature goes higher than 50°C, a warning will be issued.
When the temperature goes higher than 70°C, an alert will be issued.

Managing Warnings & Alerts

Introduction

The Treon Connect Events app gives an overview of all warning and alerts. You can also see the events in the Condition app in the Trends (KPI) data timeline when the feature has been activated.

1. Events app

Choose the Events app from the Treon Connect main interface.

The fields on the top show all active events:

number of alerts
number of warnings

The main body shows the list of active alerts and warnings.

Each event has a full description which event was triggered and which Trends (KPI) event rule was violated.

It is listed for which Asset in which Group and at which time the event was triggered, as well as the severity (warning, alert).

If you click on the description of an event, a new window will open with the full information. This links directly to the Treon device and to the Asset measurement information, where you can check the current state of the measurement data.

You can as well choose to clear the event. After clearing the event, it will no longer show as active but as cleared.

In order to clear all events at once, choose Clear in the Events app to clear all events from the list.

Treon Connect will store the data when an event was cleared and by which user account.

Upcoming feature: Warnings and alerts can trigger messages sent out to key stakeholders.

2. Condition app

It is possible to show alerts and warnings in the Trends (KPI) data timeline in the Condition App Measurements tab.

You can turn on this visualisation feature by activating the Show events button in the Trends (KPI) menu for a specific asset sensor device.

And here the data visualisation with Show events turned on. The graph now includes the lines defined by the event rules and shows the data within these margins, or breaking these margins. Warnings are displayed as yellow lines, alerts as red lines:

How to Manage Users & Roles

Introduction

For accessing the Access management app, click the corresponding app button in the Treon Connect main menu.

It will give you access to two menus:

Users presents a list of all current users.
Roles shows and lets you make change to the different user roles and user access level.

Inviting New Users

To invite new users, press the Invite New button on the top right side. This will open a new window. Enter the name and email address of the new user, choose a role, and press Send Invite.

An email with all necessary information will be sent to the new user immediately. Clicking on the link provided in the email will open a browser window where the new user can set the password for the account and then log-in to Treon Connect.

Roles

There are three types of user roles which grants different permissions based on requirement. Owner Account: It’s the developer account created alongside the instance. Access to this is not necessary. Admin Account: Has full permissions to make changes in the Treon Connect platform. Only Admin accounts can invite new users.
User Account: This account can be limited or restricted to specific permissions or access to delimited applications inside Treon Connect. All newly created roles are considered User accounts.

Creating New Roles

New roles can be created based on requirement or to limit the access to specific people or teams. You can specify the Role Name and select the access to the specific applications this role will have access to.

Editing Roles

In case a role needs to be edited to provide different or more permissions, this can be done selecting the role and using the drop-down menu to check or uncheck the applications allowed.

Upcoming feature: Complex user access control will let you decide which user has access to specific asset groups!

Filter & Search for Users

To filter the list of users, choose the Filters button and a new field will appear.

You can filter by user Name, Email and Registration date combined with an Operator and a Value.

You can also use the Search function to find a specific user.

Export Users List

To export a full or a filtered list of users, choose the Export button. You can choose between downloading the list as Excel file or as CSV file, or printing it.

Editing & Deleting Users

Should you want to edit or delete a user account, click on the name in the Users list and a new window will open.

Here you can delete and edit existing user accounts, as well as reset the password.
